Approach to mathematics education research can be done in various ways including quantitative research. Quantitative studies of mathematics learning to rely on the scientific method to find rules, laws and principles concerning the reality of learning mathematics in school. Mathematics education research became a necessity when the teacher wants renewal of mathematics education. Apart from the formal legal aspects of mathematics education research activities either by teachers, lecturers as well as by prospective teachers will provide many benefits. With the mathematics education research, can know the different individuals or groups in the study of mathematics. Teachers can determine the position of students in the group and compare learning outcomes between groups. Teachers can do a match between objectives and results of learning outcomes; The results of the research can be used for refining the program, counseling, provision of information to the public. in addition, teachers can do a comparison between the activities and criteria for each dimension of the program and refining the program and the inference results of mathematics education as a whole. Furthermore, it can be done a study on the implementation of the program, the environmental impact study, the influence of the program, curriculum or syllabus of learning outcomes, and for the improvement of mathematics education program as a whole.
Before learning of mathematics held, teachers do the following things as a preparatory step:
  1. Planning for mathematics learning environment determine the source of the necessary teaching planning activities that are flexible plan the physical environment of learning mathematics involve students in creating a mathematical learning environment
  2. Develop students' social environment to work together to plan activities encourage students to respect each other students explore feelings about math develop mathematical models.
  3. Plan mathematical activities plan mathematical activities are balanced in terms of: material, time, trouble, and activity plan mathematical activities that are open (open-ended) plan activities according to student ability
