Calculator is a tool that helps calculate the math students in learning in school. The calculator can bridge the arithmetic and algebra for students. This is where the calculator is an invaluable tool that really helps students. Types of calculators had great development. Usual type of calculator is a calculator and a scientific calculator (scientific calculator). Benefits that can be explored from the use of calculators are: help in understanding math concepts, helping to strengthen computational skills, develop a high level thinking skills, improve problem solving skills, solving problems and making more realistic.
Case studies to examine the use graphing calculators done in SMK Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta IV. The material taught is Two Variables Systems of Linear Equations. The purpose of this case study is to identify the use of graphing calculators in mathematics learning processes and study the response of students to use graphing calculators in mathematics learning process. Target achieved is to understand the activities of teachers and pupils in learning mathematics. Students should understand some important orders from the Texas Instruments TI 89 calculators are:
·         Commands that solve one of the commandments of the feature algebra. This command is used to solve a problem.
·         Simult command is one command of the feature matrix. The solution is based on similarities in the matrix.
·         Expand command is one command of the feature algebra. The solution is based on the translation process.
Stages use calculators as a learning tool in SMK Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta IV as follows:
  • The first stage is the stage of understanding about the importance of graphing calculators.
  • The second stage is the stage of understanding the theory and use of graphing calculators in solving the problem equations and inequalities. The second process is focused on how students understand the command, symbolic manipulation, and graphs to solve equations and inequalities problems with graphing calculators.
  • The third stage, the stage of entering data into calculator about graphs.
  • The fourth stage is the stage interpretation of the graphing calculator screen and draw conclusions.
Benefit of the graphing calculator is:
a.       Graphing calculator to determine and match the image resolution graphics along with the answer set.
b.      Graphing calculator to give you the real experience of graphic images.
c.       Settlement about equations and inequalities can use the command, symbolic manipulation and graphics.
d.      Graphing calculator is useful to provide answers to the previously calculated without a calculator and accelerate problem solving mathematics.
The constraint experienced by students in using the calculator is:
  1. Difficulty paraphrase sentences in the language of mathematics to express every calculator and the calculator display into a mathematical sentence.
  2. If the use of graphing calculators with no offset the ability to understand the operating procedures and to think mathematically it can cause a high level of dependence, loss of confidence, and lazy thinking.
